Betty Scheer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Funeral Home - Henrietta on Dec. 8, 2025.
Peacefully holding hands in prayer with loved ones, Betty June Smith Scheer passed away on December 2, 2025 at the age of 101 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Gary Charles Scheer; grandchildren: Tonja Scheer, Betty Scheer Ellsworth, Shonnie Scheer, Leanna Scheer Sisson, Michele Scheer Berry, Gary Charles Scheer Jr., and their spouses; her great grandchildren: Brandt Ellsworth, Isabella Roggi, Vivian Roggi, Megan Sisson Mankin, Quinton Sisson, Lance Sisson, Elizabeth Sisson Michael, Camaren Berry, Ethan Berry, Logan Scheer, Cole Scheer, and Henry Scheer; seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Franklin and Viola Smith; her loving husband, Eddie Leroy Scheer; her sister, Charlotte Smith Duewall, and her oldest son and his wife, Eddie Franklin Scheer and Sallie Sue Sike Scheer.

Betty was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, on June 8, 1924, where she lived until the age of fifteen. She moved to Henrietta, Texas for her remaining years of high school and graduated from Henrietta High School ahead of schedule due to the outbreak of WWII. Betty remained in Henrietta the rest of her life. Betty married Eddie Leroy on January 16, 1943 while he was on a three-day pass from the army; they were married in Pastor Fles Warren's home in Ringgold, Texas. Those whom knew her witnessed Betty's most unwavering faith. As a young mother she wanted to instill that same faith into her two boys and taught Sunday School for 14 years. Mostly, she enjoyed singing in the choir of the United Methodist Church for over fifty years, sang with the Women's Civic Chorus of Wichita Falls, and sang for decades for numerous Clay County weddings and funerals. Betty was also a faithful member of the Junior Delphian Club, The Aggie Mother's Club, and served as Cub Scout Den Mother for six years. She often taught piano lessons, sewed clothing for herself and family, gardened daily, cooked early breakfasts to accommodate a ranching lifestyle, and cared for her children, grandchildren, and numerous relatives in their earliest and final years. Born in an oil boom, living through the Great Depression, WWII, experience a son afflicted & healed of polio and then deployed to Vietnam for two tours, all before the age of fifty, allowed a deep strength and faith to carry her another half century. Her appreciation of a simple and wholesome life of work and prayer is one to emulate.

Visitation will be held at 5-6:30 pm Thursday, December 11, 2025 at Owens & Brumley~ Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 12, 2025 at The United Methodist Church of Henrietta, Texas. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery, Henrietta, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Henrietta or to Hospice of Wichita Falls.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to her long time caregivers Billie Jean Simon and Joseph Cribbs; to her faithful friends Jan Neville and Cindy Pope whom brought her communion monthly for almost twenty year; to Wichita Falls Hospice for such excellent care and compassion; and to the many friends who gave her so much love and attention in these final years.
