Betty Anne Sterna, 74, of Beloit, WI, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 in her home.
She was born on January 6, 1949 in Dekalb, IL, the daughter of Mervil "Tony" and Mabel (Vogle) Vagle. Betty was a Rochelle High School graduate. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Later in life, she earned a certification in medical records coding. Betty married David Sterna on June 6, 1970 in Lindenwood, IL.
Betty was formerly employed by Swedish American Hospital, Beloit Memorial Hospital, and retired in 2013 from the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. She was a volunteer for 10 years at the VIP Grill at Beloit Memorial Hospital and other non-profits in Beloit. Betty loved to read and was a frequent patron of the Beloit Public Library. She also loved to walk in the woods on the family farm. Watching and playing with her grandchildren was something she always looked forward to. At 50 years old, she bought a motorcycle and enjoyed going for rides with her husband on the country roads around Madison. In recent years she enjoyed camping in a travel trailer. She also enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, and Scandinavian countries. She was lucky enough to see Elvis twice with the help of her long-time friends, John and Linda Beale.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, David Sterna of Beloit, WI; son, Larry (Julie) Sterna of New Berlin, WI and their children: Madalyn, Zachary, and Alexander; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Sacho of Palm Harbor, FL and their children: Elise and Meyer; brother, James Vagle of Rochelle, IL; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Quaite of Beloit, WI.
Betty was predeceased by her parents; brothers-in-law, Robert L. Sterna and David Quaite.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Beloit Regional Hospice, Beloit Memorial Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, Madison.
A Funeral Service for Betty will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI, with Pastor Dave Gaeth officiating.
