Betty Lou (Vanden Hoek) Tegethoff, age 80, of Corsica, SD, formerly of Harrison, SD, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society - Corsica.
Betty was born May 22, 1944, to Arie Cornelius Vanden Hoek and Emma (Tolsma) Vanden Hoek. Betty spent her growing up years on the family farm 2 1/2 miles west of Corsica. She attended college at Southern State in Springfield, SD, for one year. Then Betty taught at a couple of local country schools for three years.
On December 17, 1965, Betty was united in marriage to Jim Tegethoff at the Harrison Christian Reformed Church.
Betty's love was reflected in supporting her husband on the farm, raising their six children, and attending their beloved grandchildren's activities. Betty's kindness overflowed in the community, working as a teacher's aide and home health aide, and volunteering in life-affirming organizations.
As an active member of the Aurora Center Reformed Church, Betty wore a variety of hats over the years while she was involved in many aspects of church life. She especially enjoyed helping with Sunday School, VBS, Christmas programs, and participating in the ladies' activities.
Betty's contagious laughter and lively spirit made bowling, dancing, playing games, gardening, fishing, and bus trips very memorable.
Grateful for having shared in Betty's life are: her six children, Ronda (Craig) Samuelson of Sioux Falls, SD, Randy (Marla) Tegethoff of
Platte, SD, Bryan (Carrie) Tegethoff of Bloomingdale, MI, Brenda (Kevin) Werkmeister of Armour, SD, Travis (Shannon) Tegethoff of
Platte, SD, and Trent (Lisa) Tegethoff of Sioux Falls, SD; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; one brother Dennis (Mavis) Vanden Hoek of Stickney, SD; one sister Carol (Randy) Breukelman of Mitchell, SD; sister-in-law Karen Tegethoff of Harrison, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.
