Beverly Jean Elgan, age 88, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away February 25, 2026, after a long and fulfilling life. She was born on April 20, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska, to June A. and Frank O. Spohn. Beverly was the second youngest of six children.
Beverly grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated in 1956 from Omaha South High School where she was active in Sales Club, Choir, Gymettes, Red Peppers, and Y-Teens. After high school, Beverly moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Beverly earned an associate degree from Iowa Western Community College and a bachelor's degree of Psychology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She attended Midwest College of Massage Therapy and was a certified hypnotherapist. She was also self-employed as a licensed therapeutic massage therapist. Beverly was a member of the Council Bluffs Elks Lodge -- the first woman admitted into the club in the past 99 years.
We will remember Beverly for her sense of humor, her love of art and travel, and her special friendships created throughout her life.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and June Spohn; brothers, Orville William Spohn and Franklin "Frank" Spohn; sisters, Audry Heavrin and Shirley Hall; grandchild, Nicole Elgan-Moore; great grandchild, Marissa Barton
She is survived by her sister, Donna McLaughlin of Omaha, Nebraska; daughters, Renee Barton (Leland), Wanda Elgan (Larry), and son Bradley Elgan (Tamara); nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who will never forget the love she brought to their lives. Beverly was also a wonderful stepmother and cherished Steve and Jodi Elgan, Patty Barone, Cathy Stevens, and Sharon Griffith.
As a result of her generous spirit and outgoing personality, everyone loved Beverly. Her life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, March 6, 2026. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Interment is at Graceland Park Cemetery in Omaha. The family will direct memorials.
