Beverly Gies Kirven was born on July 28, 1950, to Leo Andrew Gies, Sr. and Nora Bell Gies and passed on June 23, 2025.
Bev enjoyed people most of all. She read, walked, ran Kentucky Derby Festival mini marathons, loved Churchill Downs and Derby week. She and her girlfriends/sisters were regulars at the Oaks. She also loved sports, playing softball and coaching.
Bev was a kid at heart when around children. She loved playing with them and entertaining them. When music was on, she liked dancing and singing.
Bev's career was about helping others. For 28 years she supervised staff providing aid to families with dependent children. After retiring from state government, she used her knowledge of Medicaid to help families in Parkway Medical Center. There she worked with Melissa Ishmael, a nurse. 25 years later Melissa would be one of the wonderful, loving, caring people at Belmont Village St. Matthews to comfort Bev.
Melissa and the Belmont Village people became our expanded family. Comfort and companionship were also provided by the Hosparus team of nurses, social workers, CNAs, chaplains and volunteers. We will always be grateful for Bev's peaceful transition in life.
Bev found tranquil time for herself on peaceful walks through Cherokee Park and in her garden at her home.
Bev is survived by her husband, Jamie; sons, Nick and Joe; sisters, Linda Carter and Janie Fargen; and her brother, Leo Gies. Bev and Jamie have five grandchildren, Jacob, Jackson, Lincoln, Leila, and Jovie.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home 3800 Bardstown Road.
