Beverly was born in
Bell, California, grew up around the Riverside area, and graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, California in 1952. She married her husband of sixty years, Harry Shenefield, on May 19th, 1955 in Gardnerville, Nevada. The couple subsequently moved to Placerville, California where they raised their young family for twelve years before relocating to Oregon; most notably Joseph, Oregon, where Harry was the City Marshall for several years. They eventually landed in
Walla Walla, Washington in 1979 when Harry took a job at the Washington State Penitentiary and lived there for the rest of their lives. Beverly spent much of her life as a homemaker, but also occasionally worked out of the home: a car dealership in Placerville, California, and both K-Mart and Sears in Walla Walla. She very much enjoyed creating arts and crafts that she sold to various shops across the northwest, and had several of her designs published in craft books. In her later years, Beverly kept busy crocheting what she referred to as "Fidget Blankets" that she then donated to nursing homes around the Walla Walla area.
A memorial for Beverly will take place on a yet-to-be-determined date this summer in Joseph, Oregon, where she will be placed alongside her husband Harry, Sr. and one of their sons, Harry Jr., at the Prairie Creek Cemetery; with its breathtaking views of the nearby Wallowa Mountains and the Seven Devils Mountains of Idaho.
Donations in Beverly's name may be made to her favorite charity: First Nation Ministries Inc., PO Box 30055, Portland, OR 97294 – a Christian charitable organization that delivers food, clothing, and other essential items to various Native American reservations across North America, as she and her husband Harry always had a soft spot in their hearts for Native American causes and supported them much of their life together.
