Beverly Jean Shields, 73, went to be with her Lord & Savior on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Beverly was born February 5, 1951, to Harold and Dorma Shields. She was Valedictorian of her 1969
Quitman High School graduating class and a 1974 graduate of East Texas State University. She was
crowned Quitman's Miss Dogwood in 1968, a title she was honored to have. She worked at a title
company for 40 years. She enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles, reading, and her sweet little dog,
Lyndee.
She was a devout Christian and was active in her church, Hubbard Chapel Missionary Baptist Church,
where she served as Sunday School secretary for numerous years.
Beverly was proceeded in death by her father, Harold Shields Sr. and her grandparents Garlin and Alma
Hibbs and William "Reedy" and Ozie Shields. She is survived by her mother Dorma Shields of Quitman;
daughter Elizabeth Slaughter and husband Dennis of Huntington Beach, California; daughter Jennifer
Johnson and husband Jason of Quitman; sister Nancy Stallings and husband Chris of Quitman; brother
Harold Shields Jr. and wife Debbie of Tyler; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on October, 11, 2024 at Beaty Funeral Home, Mineola, followed by a
graveside service at 12:00 pm at Roselawn Cemetery, where she will rest next to her family members. Services will
be officiated by Rick Ellington, Pastor of Hubbard Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
