Waynesville, Billy “Bill” Jack Rogers, 89, passed away on October 17, 2023.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Cauley and Ruth Ferguson Rogers. He was preceded in death by his wife Regina Ferguson Rogers who died in 2009; one son, Charles Rogers; four sisters, Edith Ferguson, Pauline Clement, Mary Davis and Bly Cathey; two brothers, Kenneth and Paul Rogers.
Bill served in the United States Army, during the Korean conflict. After his time of service, he began his career of 36+ years with Champion International as a machine operator in the Waynesville Plant. He was a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church. He enjoyed tinkering with small engines, gardening, and basketball. He cherished his time spent with his grandchildren.
Bill leaves behind two daughters, Margaret Rogers (David) of Waynesville and Martha Winfrey (Eric) of Mechanicsville, VA; a daughter-in-law, Billie Rogers of Boone, NC; six grandchildren, Brian Rogers (Paula), Sarah Worden (Ryan), Maggie Rogers, Rachael Winfrey & Erica Winfrey, Lauren Leaton (Charles); two great-grandchildren, Amelia Worden and Autumn Leaton.
A funeral service will be held at Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023, with Reverend Tim Lolley and Reverend Jimmy Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fines Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 11571 Betsy’s Gap Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
The care of Mr. Rogers has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
