Billy Cross Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas Funeral Home - Corydon on Jan. 30, 2025.
William Joseph (Billy Joe) Cross, age 42, left this world on January 27, 2025.
He was born to Major and Anita Cross on May 15, 1982. You could almost say he was born with a fishing pole in his hand. Fishing was his favorite pastime. He was fishing with his dad by the age of 3.
Billy Joe loved anything outdoors. That included mushroom hunting and rock hunting. He did his share of deer hunting with his dad and when he started coyote hunting, they had to take the diaper bag along.
He helped take care of things at his Grandpa Joe's and Grandma Roberta's. In recent years, he drove the tractor for his grandpa.
Billy Joe and his sister, Tanya were best friends, get them together and there would be lots of laughter.
He became an uncle, and was dearly loved by his nieces, Trinity and Sierra. Billy Joe then became a father to Zack. This was another big life change. Zack was loved dearly by Billy Joe. He was so proud of all of Zack's accomplishments in sports, and now attending college.
If someone needed help, Billy Joe would be there and would do what he could to help them out.
Billy Joe was taken from us too soon and will be greatly missed by many family members and friends.
He is survived by his son, Zackary Cross, parents, Major and Anita Cross, sister, Tanya Odom, nieces, Trinity Demry (Nathan McClain) and Sierra O'Brien, great nieces, Ava McClain and Oaklyn O'Brien and grandfather, Joe Cross.
Billy Joe was preceded in death by his grandmother, Roberta Cross, and grandparents, Corliss and Margaret Fry.
A visitation will take place Friday, January 31, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon, starting at 10:00AM, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00PM. Cremation will follow the service, and a private family burial will be held at Shriver Cemetery, at a later date. Memorials in honor of Billy Joe can be written to Zackary Cross to help with college expenses and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, 303 East Jefferson St. Corydon, IA 50060 ATTN: Cross Family. I am going to miss those nights out fishing some where any where it did not matter just as long as we could get some bait in the water.
But the last few years I was not able to get out and go fishing as much as I wanted to becouse of my parents and there health problems and I had been working on the house until my dad caught it on fire on accident.
As they always think that we would have time so that we could go out fishing again. If I had only known this was going to happen I would have gotten a hold of him soon to go fishing again.
Billy was the first person that I have ever come across that had a live of fishing like I had the only difference between me and Billy was he like to catch the fish and I did not care if I caught any fish it was more about the relaxing and enjoying nature but catching a fish was just a bonus.
My regards goes out to his family and friends all I can say is don't think of him as being gone now for he is not gone he is on a all new fishing trip and God is showing him where he can find all of those big fish that he was always looking for to catch and he will be there when we join up with him later to. Show us where to find those big fish just like he did at lake rathbun and many of othier farm pond that we had gone to fish.
Most of the farm ponds we went to was mainly for catching bait so that we could go to rathbun lake to try and catch one of them big cats that his dad would catch. Sometimes I think he was just trying to show his dad that he could catch a big cat just like his dad would catch.
I am going to miss you Billy but I will continue trying to catch that big cat for you and when I do catch them I will know that it was you that guided me to that spot to find that big cat. And don't be catching all of them big cats there save some for me to brother
