Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home - Braintree on Sep. 12, 2025.
Bismoy Dasgupta unexpectedly left us on September 12, 2025 at the age of 42. He suffered a tragic accidental fall while on vacation in NYC. He lost his hard-fought struggle and passed away peacefully surrounded by close friends and family. Bismoy (Biz) was known for his kindness, compassion, generosity, passion for life and witty humor.
Sayon (as he was known by his family and Bengali community) was born on August 19, 1983 in Massachusetts. He had a happy childhood home life with his parents, sister and maternal grandparents in Needham, MA. Sayon attended school in Needham from K-12 and graduated Needham High School in 2001. Throughout his childhood he was actively involved in the community – from Bengali society and Needham township theater productions, to many sports including high school swim team. Long family trips through Asia combined with trips to India to visit his relatives cultivated his lifelong love of travel and exploring other cultures.
Bismoy moved to Chicago, IL in 2003 and his personal and professional life flourished there. Bismoy had over 20 years of professional experience in research administration, finance, and business operations in universities and academic medical centers. He first started his professional research administration career in 2007 at the University of Chicago. In 2008 he transitioned to University Research Administration. Next Bismoy joined the new Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering as Director of Grants and Budgets. He was soon promoted to Associate Dean and Director of Finance and Operations and oversaw significant growth. He then moved to Northwestern University/Chicago campus where he worked at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as the Associate Department/Division Administrator. In May 2023 he joined Huron Consulting Group as a Senior Associate and within a year was promoted to Manager. At Huron he found his professional home where he partnered with internal colleagues, external clients, and created business infrastructure that will have lasting impact.
Bismoy enjoyed a vibrant life in Chicago. He was an animal lover who loved snuggling at home with his menagerie of cats and dogs and spending time outdoors enjoying his beloved city. His love of travel and food took him all over the world and he cherished the time he spent touring India and visiting his grandmother. He was a living example of caring authenticity and made lasting friendships and connections wherever he went. He actively made time for his many friends and extended family.
He was passionate about helping others and volunteered at several organizations including the Network for Equality, PAWS Chicago, and The Night Ministry. Bismoy was a community leader, serving on the Board of Directors at both Equality Illinois and Center on Halsted. As in life, Bismoy was generous in death, giving three organ recipients a new chance at life.
He is survived by his grandmother Maya Sengupta (Kolkata), parents Siben and Krishna Dasgupta (Hingham, MA), sister Bidisha Dasgupta, brother-in-law Ian Anderson and nephew Ishan Stanley (Philadelphia), and his partner and dear love Keith Collins (Chicago). He was a remarkable friend, brother, partner, son, uncle who will be desperately missed.
