Bob Leba Smith, 87, of Newport, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. He was born on July 1, 1938, in Tuckerman, Arkansas, to Leba and Audine (Burgess) Smith.

Bob proudly served his country as a United States Marine before beginning his long career with the United States Postal Service. He took great pride in serving his community through his work, and was known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and friendly spirit. He touched many lives through simple kindness and a willingness to lend a hand.

Beyond his service and career, Bob lived a life filled with love for family and the outdoors. He found joy in fishing, a pastime that gave him both peace and adventure. He loved gathering with family, sharing stories, laughter, and meals that built a lifetime of memories. He was also meticulous about caring for his yard, finding satisfaction in keeping it perfectly manicured.

Of all his blessings, none brought him more joy than his granddaughter, Anna, lovingly known to him as "Annie girl." Their bond was one of his greatest treasures, and time spent with her was a source of endless pride and happiness.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Leba and Audine Smith, and his brother, Ronnie Davis.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Mary Jo Smith, of the home; his son, Mark Smith of Vilonia; his daughter, Leah Turner of Little Rock; his brother, Lanny Smith of Newport; and his beloved granddaughter, Anna Martin (Will) of Denver, Colorado.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Woodruff County Medical staff for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Mr. Bob.

A private service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
