Rev. Bobby J. Moore, 82, died peacefully at his home in Pittsburg, TX, on March 20, 2024.
Bobby was the eighth of ten children born to Laura Boyd Moore Powell and Grammer Moore, Sr. in the Camp Switch community (Texas). He accepted Christ as his personal savior when he was in junior high school during an annual revival at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Gladewater (Red Rock), Texas. He graduated from Weldon High School in 1959.
Bobby married Bennie Clay, in 1966, and they moved to Seattle, WA. From this union, two daughters were born: Portia and Bridget. The family moved from Seattle, WA, to Austin, TX, in 1972. There they began worshipping with David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he answered God calling him into the ministry on May 1, 1976. He was licensed as a minister on June 13, 1976, and ordained on June 25, 1978.
In 1978, the family moved to Diana, TX. He became the senior pastor at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Ore City, TX, in 1979. He served as pastor at: Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in the Mims/Lone Star community; Post Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Kilgore, TX; and New Hope Baptist Church, Gladewater, TX. He served as an associate minister at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, TX. His last church home was with Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, TX, under the leadership of Pastor Kirthell Roberts.
A memorial service will be held at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, TX on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please give donations to honor him to Mt. Olive Baptist Church or the Red Rock Historical Association.
