Bobby Dwaine Simmons

Bobby Dwaine Simmons, age 87, of Newnan, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Dwaine was born on October 6, 1937, in Crisp County, Georgia, to the late Frank S. Simmons Sr. and Bessie Rowland Simmons, both of Cordele, Georgia. Dwaine graduated from East Crisp County High School and went on to attend college. After college, Dwaine married his high school sweetheart, Wesley Ann Hobbs and began his career with Southern Railway in Atlanta, Georgia until drafted into the US Army. After serving, Dwaine continued his employment with Norfolk Southern Railway until retiring with Ann and daughter Heather in Newnan, Georgia, at age 55.
In 2000, Dwaine relocated to Hamilton, Georgia and built his dream retirement log home atop Sparkleberry Mountain where he met his current loving wife, Janice Kindsfather. Dwaine and Jan spent the last 24 years enjoying retirement, family, church, community and travel.
Dwaine was a devoted member of the Pine Mountains Front Porch Gang bible study group and spent much of his time caring for others and giving back to the community. Dwaine recently moved back to Newnan to be closer to his daughter, grandson, and extended, loving family.
Dwaine is survived by his daughter, Heather Elise Simmons Corley (Curt Ivey); his grandson, Andrew Wade Corley; his wife, Janice Kindsfather Simmons; his siblings Frank S. Simmons Jr. (Charlotte), Ramona Simmons Laird; his sister-in-law Connie Simmons, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Wesley Ann Simmons, his brother John David Simmons, and his brother-in-law Robert W. Laird.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 4, 2025, from 4:30-6:00 pm at McKoon Funeral Home with a celebration of life following at 6:00 pm in the chapel. Dwaine will be privately laid to rest Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 11:00 am at Evergreen Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia surrounded by close family and friends.
Dwaine spent much of his life giving and caring for others. In honor of this, we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the White Oak Golden K Scholarship Fund in his name.
