Bobby Lee Thomas of Winston Salem, North Carolina has passed away at the age of 88. Surrounded by those he loved in his home, he departed peacefully from this world on the morning of August 3rd, 2023.
Born on January 4th, 1935, in Tazewell County, Virginia, Bobby Lee Thomas went on to serve his country honorably as a member of the US Army and went on to build a life focused on love, kindness and family.
Bobby had a passion for golf that brought him great joy both on and off the course. While he may not have exactly excelled at the game, he appreciated each opportunity he had to hit the green with his friends and family. Throughout his life, Bobby became well known for his passion for “fashion”, flaunting his inability to form a matching outfit at any, and every, event. Despite the variety of colors he donned, his presence alone created an immeasurable amount of positive energy that may never be replaced.
Bobby is preceded in death by his son Michael Wayne Thomas, his brother Tommy Alan Thomas, and both parents, Harry & Mary Thomas.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Rachel B. Thomas, and his three children: Barbara Hamm (Greg) of Clemmons, NC; Tammy Tehrani of Lexington, NC; Jerry Thomas (Michelle) of Lexington, NC. Six grandchildren: Brittany (Dan), Kayla, Justin, Jason, Jesse, and Josh (Jonnie). Four great-grandchildren: Campbell, Colton, Rylan, and Asher. Also, a brother, Murel Thomas (Brenda), and sister, Nancy Smothers (Danny). Bobby leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who will all continue to honor his legacy and embrace the memory and true essence of “Paw-Paw” Bobby.
A visitation will be held to honor and celebrate Bobby’s life on August 12th at Silas Creek Chapel – Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home. The visitation will commence from 11:00AM to 12:00PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00PM. The burial service will take place at Westlawn Garden of Memory in Winston-Salem, NC.
