Robert "Bobby" Kent Thompson, of Medora, passed away on the morning of December 24, 2024, at Columbus Regional Hospital with his family by his side, he was 69 years old.
Bobby entered this life on December 8, 1955, in Seymour, Indiana. He was the last born to Harley and Margie (Reynolds) Thompson. He grew up in Medora and graduated from Medora Community High School, Class of 1974. Bobby entered the labor market and went to work at the former Medora Plastics Factory. Bobby's patriotism led him to volunteer to join the US Navy in 1975, serving with TACRON 22 Unit. After serving for over 6 years, Bobby was honorably discharged from service. He returned to Medora and went back to work for the Medora Plastics Factory until the factory closed in the 90s. He then went to work at NTN Driveshaft until his retirement.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father and Papaw. On July 9, 1993, at his father-in-law's house he was forever united to Judy (Byer) Thompson.
Bobby had a servant's heart and a love to serve the town of Medora. In November of 2023, he was elected to serve another term for the Medora Town Council. Bobby also started a softball league in Medora. He and other volunteers ran it from 80's until the 90's. He coached softball and basketball for Medora High School, he served with the Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. Still being called to serve, after Bobby retired, he went to drive for the local DAV, taking veterans to doctor and hospital appointments. He served the Medora Christmas Festival for over 20 years. And when Spring would come around, Bobby would be out mowing the lawns for the local widows around the community.
Bobby leaves a legacy of love with his wife of 31years, Judy Thompson of Medora, children, John Douglas Taylor of Norman, Jerry Dean Taylor and his wife Mistie of Norman, Amber Booker of Norman, Matthew Thompson of Michigan City, and Joni McPike and her husband Brad of Brownstown, 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, brother Harold Thompson of Medora, and sister Brenda Beyers and her husband Joe of Medora, sister-in-law, Peggy Thompson of Brownstown, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents and brother Denver Thompson, son-n-law Mark Booker, and a sister-in-law Rhonda Thompson
