William R. “Bobby” Walraven, 73, of Sugar Valley, Georgia, departed this life Friday, June 28, 2024, at Hospice Care Center in Chattanooga, TN, following several weeks of declining health.
Bobby was born in Calhoun, Georgia, on June 5, 1951, the son of the late AB and Floy Walraven. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Nicholson Walraven, on April 15, 2024; sister and brother-in-law, Daphine and Gordon Avery; sister-in-law, Inez Moorhead; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Junior and Mildred Nicholson.
Bobby attended Sugar Valley School and was a member of the 1969 graduating class of Calhoun High School, an avid golfer who enjoyed time spent with his golfing family. In his earlier years, he loved playing softball on the Reeves Transportation Team, bowling, and working outside in his yard. He was a pioneer in the LTL trucking industry with Reeves Transportation and later with RWT Incorporated. He presently owns and operates Platinum Trailer Leasing in Chatsworth, Georgia. He enjoyed the years he and his friends and work associates, Bob McEntire, Chad McEntire, and Joe Young, worked together. Bobby loved and cherished his family and was grateful for his many friendships over the years.
Those who survive him include his daughter, Tammy Walraven; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Hollie Walraven; grandchildren, Logan and Kendra Walraven, Averie Walraven, and Allie Walraven; sister-in-law, Pat Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Shirley Walraven and Jack Moorehead. and Larry Walraven; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin, and Lisha Nichelson; Timmy and Marsha Nicholson; nieces, Melissa Nichelson Brannon, Marlee Nichelson; nephews, Rodney Thomas, Kolby Nicholson; great nieces, Anna, Jenna and McKenna Brannon, Ella and Sophia Nicholson and Blaklee Allen; special sisters, Janet Craig, and Debbie Wyatt; nieces and nephews, Diane Allen, April Crawford, Melea Romine, Tony Moorehead, Marty Moorehead, Edena Rushing, Chuck Allen, and Elyssia Kinsey.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 30, 2024, between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
The family asked that flowers be omitted and contributions be made in Bobby’s memory to the Trent Thomason Memorial Agriculture Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 214, Calhoun, Georgia 30703
A private family graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery at Hall Memorial beside his late wife, Debbie Walraven.
