Bonnie Berneal Haffer, nee Ransom, of Steelville, MO was born on Friday, January 19, 1940, in Salem, MO to Virgil Elmer Ransom and Nellie Blanch (Barton) Ransom. She passed away at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 8 days.
Bonnie was raised by her father Virgil and step-mother Mildred Ransom, nee Dicus after her mother passed away when Bonnie was 4 years old. She was a life-long resident of Steelville, MO and graduated from Steelville High School in 1959. She married Benjamin DeClue on November 18, 1961 and to this union 7 children were born. She later married the love of her life, Charles "Sonny" William Haffer on February 26, 2005 in Steelville, MO. Bonnie accepted the Lord early in life and attended Steelville First Assembly of God. She enjoyed crocheting, doing puzzles, woodburning and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was very tender-hearted, she adored babies and most of all loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her father Virgil Ransom; mother Nellie Ransom; step-mother Mildred Ransom; parents-in-law Claude and Marple Haffer; first husband Benjamin DeClue; son James "Jimmy" DeClue; step-son Billy Haffer, Jr.; step-daughter Gayle Haffer; son-in-law Eldon Schlegel; siblings Janet Chandler and Sidney Ransom; step-brother Wilbur Ransom; brothers-in-law Charles Gibson, Melvin DeClue and Gilbert Haffer; sisters-in-law Paula Darlene (Herman) Brewer, Laurie Ransom, Ruby Haffer, Cleta Haffer and Mary "Ruth" Haffer.
Bonnie is survived by her loving husband Charles "Sonny" Haffer of Steelville, MO; children Diana Pletzyer of Branson, MO, Joseph (Raylene) DeClue of Sullivan, MO, David DeClue of Cuba, MO, Michelle Bensing of OK, Melissa DeClue of Cuba, MO and Dan DeClue of Bourbon, MO; step-children Michael (Carla) Haffer of St. Peters, MO and Rose Payne of Cuba, MO; brother Ronald (Judy) Caron of Steelville, MO; step-brothers Johnny Ransom of Steelville, MO and Larry (Misty) Harmon of Cherryville, MO; brothers-in-law Cleo Chandler of Cuba, MO, Dale Haffer of Berryman, MO, Walter Haffer and Phil (Ruby) Haffer both of Cuba, MO and Keith Brewer of Collinsville, IL; sisters-in-law Mary Gibson of Potosi, MO, Shirley DeClue of St. Louis, MO and Cecelia Ransom of Steelville, MO; special friends Roger Barr and Dorothy Roland both of Steelville, MO and Gloria Weaver of St. James, MO; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation was from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. The Service was live-streamed on Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO's Facebook Page. Burial was at Haffer Cemetery, Steelville, MO. Memorials were suggested to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
