Booth Purkey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel - Grand Ledge on Sep. 8, 2024.
Booth Lee Purkey the only child of Anne and Elmer Purkey, passed away on September 5, 2024, in Lansing, MI, at the age of 80. Born on May 12, 1944, Booth's early years were marked by a profound sense of duty and a strong work ethic.
Booth is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Paulette; his sons, Lance (Toni) Purkey, Troy Purkey, and Brad (Angela Sawyers) Purkey. His memory is held dear by his grandchildren, Jess, Bradley, Nick, Katrina, Max, and Charlotte, as well as his great-grandsons, Theo and Bennett, who will miss his whimsical spirit. He now joins his parents, Elmer and Anne Purkey, on a journey beyond this world.
An alumnus of Northwood University, Booth was equipped with an associate degree that propelled him throughout his career. His professional life included tenure at 3M, and he proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. His unwavering dedication to his work was matched by his commitment to his community.
Booth's interests painted the portrait of a man with an infectious zest for life. An avid hunter and walleye fisherman, he was renowned at Preston's for his ability to invigorate any gathering with his charisma. A natural storyteller, Booth relished in making others laugh and was always ready to share a joke. He was also a fervent University of Michigan Football fan, cheering on his team with the same enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his life.
Remembered for his wit, Booth Purkey was indeed a funny man whose radiant humor and goodwill will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. His life, filled with love and laughter, will be treasured by his family and the many lives he touched.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, 301 E. Jefferson, Grand Ledge on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service. I remember what great athlete Booth was at Lake City High School. I can still see him pounding up and down our basketball court.

Just very good memories of Booth! He helped me to start a business records microfilming service when he sold me a 3-M microfilm camera. Booth was a great guy to work with. We had some good times together. It was all so long ago - early 70s.
Rest in Peace Booth.
