Brad Moore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 9, 2024.
Brad Steven (Steve) Moore, age 63, of Chesterville, passed away Wednesday morning, August 7, 2024, at Highbanks Care Center after a lengthy battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. He was born on December 4, 1960, in Mt Gilead, Ohio, son of the late James and Twila (Vonnie) Moore. Steve was a graduate of Highland High School.

Steve worked at the Derrick Motel of Mt. Gilead early on before working for Leon and Don Holtrey doing concrete and masonry work. Later he worked on oil wells, before becoming a mineralist. Steve made beautiful decorative trees with a rock at the base, twisted metal as the trunk and limbs, and gems as the leaves. Family and friends have those trees in their homes, as do many customers who purchased them from Steve at shows.

Steve was interested in collecting arrowheads in fields at a young age. As an adult, he became expert at flintknapping (working flint and stone into tools and sharp points) and exhibited his arrowhead collection at the Mt. Gilead State Park and at Flint Ridge in southeast Ohio.

A lifelong passion of Steve's was fishing, whether it was at Gregg's pond down the road from where he grew up or just about anywhere around Morrow County where he could get a bite. He taught his cousins how to fish and he was an expert at dousing the garden before dusk and then going out later with a flashlight to get the best nightcrawlers.

Steve will be missed by his extended family and friends, especially by his uncle Richard Moore and dear friend Jeff Morgan, both who advocated and cared for him during his extended illness with Frontotemporal Dementia and later ALS, which also took his father and sister.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother Rick and sister Vonnetta. Steve's family and close friends will hold a private burial at a later date at the Chesterville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Steve's name may be made to ALS United Ohio, 1170 Old Henderson Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43220.

Steve loved the outdoors and was an expert morel mushroom hunter a skill that was taught to him by his Dad. He would tell me the stories about the many times and all the morels they would find while he was teaching me to be a better morel hunter. Steve was very knowledgeable about Arrow heads and also enjoyed hunting for them as well as making his own. Many memories growing up on the old farm with his family.
