Bradley Alan Cass passed from this world the week of November 8th, 2024. Brad leaves behind his son Clayton Eliot Cass, daughter Kristen Alexandria Corra, and brother Gregory Eliot Cass. He was born on October 11, 1958 to Nancy Joline Cass and Richard Cass, both deceased. He was born in Hawaii but spent the majority of his childhood in Maine living with his mother Nancy and brother Greg. Nancy was a school teacher who inspired a love for life and education and always took an interest in the things her boys liked. Her legacy of education, hard work, and love for family always served as a foundation for Brad. And he will be known for his deep love for family, adventurous spirit, and passion for the outdoors.
Brad moved to Daytona Beach in the late 1970's as a young man to attend school at the American Motorcycle Institute. He soon took up deep sea fishing and diving, and recounted stories about spearfishing in underwater caves and fending off sharks from his catch. He met his wife Kim Alexandria Ziffra and the two were soon blessed with their children Clay and Kristen. Although Brad and Kim separated in 1988 they remained friends throughout life. Brad found another family with the Daytona Beach Fire Department where his professional life fit well with his adventurous spirit. He served as a firefighter for 28 years, working his way up the ranks and retiring in 2009 as a Lieutenant. He also served as a motor medic with DBFD where his passion for motorcycles and the fire service merged together. Brad helped develop the Volusia County Hazmat Team and taught new generations about anti-terrorist measures and disaster response procedures. In the final chapter of his career he also inspired new generations of firefighters by teaching fire classes at Daytona Beach Community College.
Brad spent much of his free time fishing and riding his motorcycle on the back roads in Florida. But Maine was always home to him and he would often travel back with Clay and Kristen and join with Greg and his family where the adventures would continue around Moosehead Lake in northern Maine. Following his retirement he was able to live his dream of building a cabin on Moosehead Lake and live half the year there on a beautiful lakefront property. He made friends everywhere he went and it wasn't long before he was part of the "neighborhood". They would often meet at each other's camps for dinner and good times. Back in Florida he and his friends would plan motorcycle rides, trips to watch motorcycle races at the Daytona International Speedway, and even a bucket list vacation to England to see the Isle of Man motorcycle race. Brad loved to stay busy and if he wasn't actively working on a motorcycle project, or cooking a new recipe he found, or just spending time with friends and family, he would fill his time reading books and forums online to learn something new. A casual interest would quickly turn into a deep well of knowledge and a new collection. Vintage Bear bows and Military firearms were some of his passions later in life. When he wasn't physically with family and friends Brad loved to surround himself with their pictures around his house and on his refrigerator. And he always had music playing at the house. Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson were always on rotation. And he loved to try to hit the high notes singing along to Led Zeppelin. He was also an original parrot head who loved Jimmy Buffett and the old Florida lifestyle. Above all else, Brad leaves behind a legacy of generosity, hard work, an adventurous spirit, and a deep love for his family and friends.
