Brandon VanNoy Stewart

September 10, 1976 – March 2, 2021

Brandon VanNoy Stewart was born September 10, 1976 in Salt Lake City Utah. Throughout his life Brandon had a constant desire to be involved in and pursue good things. He wanted to live a life of service to God and those around him. He served a mission in Brazil Recife South from 1995 to 1997. He graduated from Utah Valley University with an associate degree in Diesel Mechanics in 2000. He then pursued more education and graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering in 2003.

Brandon met Shauni Nelson while in his last year of school at BYU. Brandon loved his country. He served in the Army National Guard. Brandon and Shauni were engaged when he deployed to Iraq in 2004 until 2005. They married after he returned home in March 2005 in the Bountiful Utah Temple. They were blessed with three daughters and one son. Kali (14), Jessi (12), Shayli (9), and Casey (6). His children were truly his greatest joy and accomplishment in life.

Brandon enjoyed working as a Manufacturing Engineer with ATK/Northrop Grumman for 16 years. He loved anything with an engine. He especially enjoyed aircraft (RC and simulator) and dirt bikes. His kids affectionately referred to him as the cookie monster because of his love of chocolate chip cookies. Brandon retired as a Major in the Army National Guard in 2019.

Brandon loved Jesus Christ and his gospel. He served in many callings and in his quiet dedicated way just did his best. He grew to love each calling he had and especially enjoyed working with the youth, being a finance clerk, serving in the bishopric, and then serving as bishop.

Brandon was proceeded in death by his father Gaylan Stewart. He is survived by his wife and children, his mother Mary Jane Stewart, his brothers Chad (Marian) and Kyle (Kristen), his in-laws Fred and Rella Nelson, and Shauni’s siblings Mardi (Scott) Weber, Vari (James) Durrant, Keri (Eric) Jacobsmeyer, Curtis (Terra) Nelson and Todd (Kami) Nelson. We are most grateful for our family and friends and the service and constant care they have provided our family.

Brandon has always been an example of strength, faith, patience, courage, gentleness, and wisdom. One of his favorite songs states, “When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.” Brandon faithfully battled metastatic melanoma cancer for the last sixteen months of his life with that theme in mind “it is well with my soul”.

There will be a public viewing at Russon Mortuary (1585 W 300 S, Syracuse, UT 84075) on Friday March 12, from 5pm-8pm.
