Brenda Duchane Alverez passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at the age of 78. She was born on July 9, 1945, in Jeanerette, Louisiana to Milton Duchane and Isabelle P. Lee. Brenda attended Walter L. Cohen High School in New Orleans, Louisiana as well as Francis Marion Boley High School in Jeanerette, Louisiana. An attendee of Grambling State University, Brenda retired from the VA Medical Center as their Medical Records Supervisor after 30+ years of dedicated service. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Connie Lee. Brenda is survived by her daughters, Natalie Charles and Dana Alverez; her son Troy M. Lewis; her sister Sheila Lee; and her brothers Sam Lee, Jr (Valerie), Stanley Lee, Michael Lee (Brenda), and Terry Lee. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Courtney Lewis, Justin Branden (Sha’Lee), Kelly Lewis (Troy Ellis), Jessica Wheeler, Atiana Lewis, Kendal Alverez-Simmons and Karsyn Bassett; and great-grandchildren Ry’Lee Branden, Camlee Branden, Elliana Ellis, Elias Ellis, Jameson Branden and Aundell Terrell, III; as well as long-time friends, who are like family, Reene Simmons (Patrick), Kirkland King, Lashawn Prudhomme; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge those who provided such genuine care and support to Brenda over the years including the VA Medical Center, the United States Social Security Administration, the United States Postal Service, the staff members at KPC Promise, Old Jefferson Community Care Center, the Crossing at Clarity Hospice, Baton Rouge General Hospital, and Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home.
Brenda loved to make memories. You would often find her on the phone with family and friends catching up on everyone’s lives. Never one to miss shopping opportunity, she even incorporated it into her favorite pastime of watching television – it was always a good day when her QVC and HSN deliveries arrived at her home!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Chad Williams officiating. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
