Brenda Lee Brickey (Phillips) peacefully left this world on November 5, 2025 with family by her side. An exceptional team of caring professionals were also with her during her last days at her hospital of choice, Grant Medical Center in Columbus Ohio. Those closest to her lovingly referred to her as Mom, Brennie, and Grandma Brenda.

Brenda is survived by her daughters Janie Marie Brickey (Bud) of Sacramento, California and Jessica Lynn Brickey (Josh) of Colington, North Carolina. Brenda became a grandmother in 2013 and doted on her granddaughter Lillian Jane. Brenda was a sister to Robin Lynn (Jason), Tonya Marie (Sam), Debbie, Charlie, and Rod is survived by her siblings. Brenda was an aunt of many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Brenda was loved by many cousins, aunts and uncles. Brenda was a daughter with more than one woman she considered a mother. Brenda is survived by her mother Barbara Jane Phillips who she loved dearly. Brenda was preceded in death by her mother Barbara Ann Phillips and beloved Aunt Clotene Phillips. Brenda's father Bobby Loyd Phillips was a constant in her life along with his twin brother Bill Phillips who both preceded her in death. Brenda was a wife to Marion Lee Brickey, after their marriage ended Lee and Brenda often spoke fondly of one another and despite their differences they agreed on one thing, their love for their daughters and granddaughter. Brenda was preceded in death by her ex husband Marion Lee Brickey. Brenda is survived by her beloved companion Jamie Dillon, who loved and cared for her over the years.

Brenda spent her early years back and forth between Columbus Ohio and Eastern Kentucky and most loved to spend her time with her Aunt Clotene and Uncle Wilford. Brenda relocated to Florida as a teen and spent her young adult life there. Brenda became a mother in Cleveland, OH where she lived and worked until relocating to Eastern Kentucky for many years. In 2023 Brenda returned to Columbus Ohio, closer to her beloved sisters Tonya and Robin and mother Barbara Jane. Brenda spent countless hours on the phone with her sisters near and far and cherished her conversations with them. Brenda and her companion Jamie, spent every moment together and Jamie was often found preparing meals and caretaking for Brenda over the past few months.

A note from Brenda’s daughters about services:

Mom’s passing was sudden and unexpected. She often talked about hoping to travel to see Janie in California and Jess in North Carolina. Mom’s mobility was often a challenge for her and this year Lillian and Jessica planned to spend Thanksgiving in Ohio. Mom had previously expressed her wishes for cremation and we have respected that care plan. We don’t know what her wishes were for services but we believe she would want family to come together to remember her. The experience of saying goodbye to our mom has been devastating. We are working through grief at this time and will announce a service at a later date for family near and far to come together in remembrance of our mom.

We also recognize that many closest to our mom also have challenges with accessibility and we encourage everyone mourning our mom’s loss to share details of their version of celebrating her in the obituary guestbook below. For those with mobility challenges we encourage you to set aside time in your home and light a candle in prayer or hold quiet space to reflect on a fond memory shared with our mom.
