Brenda Lynn LaVigne, 71, of Winooski, Vermont, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Colchester on May 28, 1954, Brenda came into the world alongside her twin brother, Brett, as the last set of twins born at the old Fanny Allen Hospital. She fought a courageous 17-year battle with lung cancer, meeting every challenge with grace, humor, and strength.
She was the beloved daughter of Harvey and Elizabeth LaVigne and the cherished sister of Phyllis LaVigne, Craig LaVigne (Nancy), Brett LaVigne (Jane), and Bonnie Azzaratta (Frank). Brenda spent most of her life in Winooski, where she built a warm and loving home and raised her four daughters: Brandy Hazen (Charlie), Angel Taylor (Mark Mumley), Ashley Cordero (Keith), and the late Jaime-Lynn Taylor (Will Danner), who passed away in 2015. She was a proud Nana to Joshua, Brenna, Elena, Elijah, Catherine, and Noah, who brought endless joy to her life.
Brenda was a loyal friend, maintaining many close friendships over the course of her life. She created an inviting space for all; friends and family alike. Her daughters' friends always knew they were welcome and Brenda treated them as if they were her own. She was proudly a "crazy cat lady," adopting and caring for many strays over the years, each one finding a safe (and spoiled) home with her.
To know Brenda was to love her. She was funny, quick-witted, and happy to share a cold Miller Lite and a kitchen dance party with you. She had a long-standing crush on Michael Bolton, loved a great tan, and carried herself with a spark that made every room brighter. She was known for her unforgettable "Brenda-isms" - witty sayings and hilarious one-liners her daughters began keeping track of, a tradition her granddaughter Brenna proudly continues. While Brenda could frustrate you with her stubbornness, she always brought laughter and smiles wherever she went.
Above all else, Brenda always said her greatest accomplishment was her girls, who were the center of her world. She loved them fiercely. It was important to her that the people in her life knew they were loved, but especially her daughters. Brenda truly made the world a brighter place. She was a beautiful soul - and she will be deeply missed. She will live forever in the hearts and memories of all of the lives that she touched. She believed Jaime-Lynn was finally ready for her. We have no doubt that those two are having an epic dance party wherever they may be together. Have fun girls! You are loved.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00am at LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski followed by a Celebration of Life at the Winooski VFW, 6 Maple St., beginning at 12:30 p.m.
