Brenda Shelton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Adams Funeral Home Henryville on Mar. 30, 2026.
Brenda Mae Shelton, 76, of Memphis, Indiana, passed away on Sunday March 29, 2026, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana.

Her story begins on August 29, 1949, in Evansville, Indiana, where she was born to Thomas and Oreda E. (Turpen) Smith. From those earliest days, Brenda was shaped into the warm, outgoing, and deeply family-oriented woman that so many came to love.

In the summer of 1994, Brenda married the love of her life, Lewis Shelton, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Together they built a life centered around family, laughter, and the simple joys that made every day meaningful.

Brenda devoted much of her life to the care of others. She was a homemaker at heart, but she also found purpose in her work outside the home as well. She served as a home care aide and worked at Squire Boon Village in New Albany, Indiana, where her nurturing spirit was felt by everyone around her. She also put in years of dedicated work at the Kimball Plant in Borden, Indiana.

Those who knew Brenda will remember a woman who was full of life and always at her happiest when surrounded by the people she loved. She had a gift for making ordinary moments feel special. She treasured the holidays above all Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings with her family were something she looked forward to all year long. Brenda had a love for the outdoors and adventure, whether she was camping under the stars, feeling the sand between her toes at the beach, or taking in the beauty of Gatlinburg on one of her favorite getaways. She enjoyed spending time out on her son's boat and loved nothing more than a good family cookout. And if there was a yard sale or a shopping trip to be had, Brenda was the first one ready to go. Above all else, her greatest joy was caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren they were her heart.

Brenda leaves behind a family who will carry her memory with them always. She is survived by her husband, Lewis Shelton; her children, Donna (Joe) LaDuke of Port St. Lucie, FL, Brent (Donna) Casey of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Lisa (Alex) Sanchez of New Albany, IN, Theresa (Matt) Williams of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Melissa Shelton of Mt. Vernon, IL; her grandchildren, Cameron, Trace, Katlin, Hannah, Caylina, Breonna, Brent II, Joshua, Brittany, and Annie; her great-grandchildren, Gianluca, Evelyn, Kamryn, Lillian, Bruin, Mason, and Peyton; and her siblings, Shirley (Wayne) Bailey of Shelbyville, KY, Gary (Shelia) Smith of Loogootee, IN, Regina Schultz of New Albany, IN, and Sandy (Greg) Guernsey of Henryville, IN.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Sonny, Randy, Ronnie, Peggy, Jack, and baby Linda Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Henryville, Indiana. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
