Brenda J. Sperry

Brenda Joyce Sperry, of St. Johns, died peacefully on November 24, 2025 at Sparrow Hospital. Born on May 3, 1947 in Matewan, West Virginia, Brenda was the daughter of Troy Smith and Edith Boyd. She grew up in Matewan and attended Matewan High School.
In July of 1962, Brenda married James Hale, and together they shared thirty-one years of marriage. On December 18, 1994, Brenda married the love of her life, Ivan Sperry, in Ovid, Michigan. They enjoyed 26 wonderful years together until his passing in 2021, embracing the blessings of their large blended family.
Brenda lived with a joyful spirit and a love for adventure. She and Ivan played in pool leagues, traveled often, enjoyed card games, and cherished time spent at Higgins Lake. She was the life of the party and known for seeing the best in everyone. Her laugh was unforgettable, and her kindness touched everyone she met.
She adored yard sales, thrifting, and was a proud longtime member of Moose Lodge 288. More than anything, Brenda treasured time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many friends who filled her life with joy. She carried her heart on her sleeve, and her warmth and openness made her the kindest person many had ever met.
Brenda is survived by her daughters, Jamie Hale and Deloris Hale; her step-children, Jason (the late Alicia) Sperry and Jaymie Cardenas; grandchildren Thomas Hale, Riva Smith, Ambrosia Hale, Elizabeth Hill, Doris Smith, Zach Sperry, Anthony Sperry, Katie Clagett, Haley Sperry, and Olivia Cardenas; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her siblings Troy (Regina) Smith and Bethany (Chris) Goers; nieces and nephews; extended family members, her sister-in-law Linda Randolph, and her dear friend, Stacy Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ivan Sperry, her daughter, Rhonda Hale; her grandchildren Warren and Jade, her step-brother Jerry Randolph, and her step-father Bill Randolph.
Visitation will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns on Friday, November 28, 2025 from 6-8 PM.
A Funeral Service will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, St. Johns on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 12 PM. Friends may visit from 10AM until the time of the service. Burial South Bingham Cemetery.
