Brian Bravender, Sr., age 67, of
New Orleans, LA, passed away on December 18, 2025, after a short, but determined battle with cancer and a longer battle with diabetes. He was born in New Orleans at Baptist Hospital on September 2,1958 to Dennis Ronald Bravender and Beverly Marie Digby Bravender. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty years Nancy Marie Shaw Bravender and his parents.
Brian is survived by his three sons: Brian Bravender, Jr. (Justin Tisdale), Matthew Bravender and Joshua Bravender (Amanda Hampton), grandchildren: James, Jonah, Joshua Jr., Jaxon and Fay, his brothers: Dennis Jr., Billy, Terry, Jerry, Patrick and Kevin and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was dedicated to his family, usually coaching at least one of his sons' sports teams at any given time, coordinating a basketball league at his sons' school, chairing the school fair, and later in life, babysitting his grandkids. In addition to coaching some of their teams, Brian would sometimes sell his vacation time so his sons could participate in sports leagues.
Brian was also known for his work ethic. He was a casino dealer for 25+ years, including 23 years at Harrah's (now Caesar's), where he often worked 12 hour shifts. Prior to working at Harrah's, he worked at Bally's Casino, Flamingo Casino and River City Casino.
He attended St. Henry's Catholic Elementary School, De La Salle High School and McMain High School. After graduating from McMain, Brian was offered a baseball scholarship to go to college but turned it down because his mom needed him to work to help support the family after his father passed away.
While we feel that he is gone too soon, Brian's impact on his family and friends will allow his spirit to live on. His legacy of dedication to family and his work ethic will continue to live on through his sons, grandchildren, son-in-law and daughter-in-law.
A Memorial Service to honor and remember Brian will be held at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Harvey, LA at a date that has yet to be determined. Arrangements entrusted to Tharp Funeral Home. Expressions of love and sympathy may be placed and viewed at www.tharpcares.com.
