John Edward Bruce, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was born on February 11, 1946, at Mercy Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. John was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Rosalie Bertucci Bruce and David Emile Bruce. He is survived by his devoted wife, Toye Trosclair Bruce; his son, John Paul Bruce (Amy); and his daughter, Katheryn Chaisson. He was a proud and loving grandfather to John Michael Bruce, Emma Trouble Bruce, Addison Kay Bruce, and Chandler Brooklyn Bruce. John was also the loving uncle of Jace Coty Wagoner, raising him as his own. John is also survived by his brothers: David Emile Bruce, Darrell Bruce (Beverly), Chris Paul Bruce (Carole), and Michael Ray Bruce (Ginger) and numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his Sister-in-Law and Brother-in-Law Kim Trosclair Cascio and Lucian Cascio. A lifelong resident of the New Orleans area, John attended De La Salle High School, graduating in 1963. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Louisiana State University, through the LSU School of Architecture. John proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in October 1975. Following his graduation from LSU, John worked as an architect for the State of California and Jefferson Parish. He ultimately became a longtime self-employed business owner in Gretna, where he built a respected career designing both residential and commercial buildings. His work left a lasting mark on the community he loved. John will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, his strong work ethic, and his passion for architecture. He leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and integrity that will be cherished by all who knew him. Services will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Friday, January 16, 2026. Visitation 9:00am-11:00am, Mass at 11:00am followed by graveside service at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Family and friends can view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com.
