Lawrence Elroy Dittmer Jr.

Lawrence Elroy Dittmer, Jr, 86, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on September 8, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Elroy was the beloved son of the late Lawrence and Helen Dittmer. He attended St. Rita Elementary School before going to De La Salle High School, where he graduated from in 1957. He went on to attend the University of New Orleans, earning a degree in business. After graduating, he spent his entire career in the shipping industry.

A proud veteran, Elroy served in the Army National Guard. He was honored to help defend the freedom of this country and was a member of the American Legion in New Orleans, Louisiana until his passing.

Elroy lived a full and vibrant life with more lifelong friends than one could count. His nieces, nephews, and their children meant more to him than words can describe.

Elroy is survived by his twin sisters, Catherine Eikel and Helen Boyer, his beloved nieces and nephews, Mittie Boyer, Freddie Boyer, Benjamin Boyer, Elizabeth Boyer Toups (Jason), Henry Eikel (Margaret), Wynne Eikel Borne (Neil), Aimee Eikel, Lee Eikel (Edna), and Katie Eikel (Carlos), along with his 13 great nieces and great nephews, and 1 great-grandnephew.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana 70001. Visitaiton will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, with a mass to follow. A burial will take place at a later date.
