Brian Huseman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Highland Park Funeral Home and Crematory on Oct. 16, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Dr. Brian Roy Huseman, 65, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, surrounded by his wife and five children. He died due to neurological complications resulting from West Nile virus.
Born in Ellsworth, Kansas and raised on the Huseman Family Farm, Brian developed a lifelong connection to the land and values that shaped his character. He attended Kansas State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (1982), a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1984), and a Master of Science (1986). It was during his time at K-State that he met his bride, Dr. Terri (Johnston) Huseman.
Brian briefly worked in private practice before transitioning into a successful veterinary career in the animal health industry, starting in research and development and specializing in regulatory affairs. His work spanned decades and took him across the United States and around the globe. He made a lasting impact on his industry, never shying away from taking charge. Even in retirement he continued to work as a valued consultant.
In retirement, Brian embraced the freedom to reconnect with hobbies such as hunting, spending time with family, attending K-State games, and exploring new places and countries alongside Terri. He found peace and joy behind the wheel of his tractor, mowing pastures and staying connected to the roots and land he cherished.
Together, Brian and Terri built a home full of strong values, laughter, regular chaos, lively debate, and deep connection. They raised five children-Levi (Mallory), Kezia (Robert Pittard), Asher (Jessa), Gad, and Zebulun-instilling in them a commitment to hard work, integrity, and growth. Brian's "tough love" challenged his children to stand tall, while his loyalty and pride in them were unwavering. He was deeply involved in their lives, attending nearly every game, concert, and event and always cheering them on. His grandchildren- Rory, Charlotte, Hazel, and Lenora-brought him immense joy in his later years and final days.
Known for his infectious smile, ornery sense of humor, and his unmistakable collection of bright Hawaiian shirts, Brian had a gift for lighting up every room he entered. Whether at family reunions, boardrooms, or relaxing and enjoying a beverage, he brought energy, laughter, and authenticity. Brian worked hard, lived fully, and had a way of making everyone around him feel at ease.
Brian is survived by his wife of 40 years; his children and their spouses; his grandchildren; his sister, Glennis (Huseman) Zimmerman; and his brother, Dr. Bob Huseman. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. LeRoy and J. Janice (Phelps) Huseman, and his in-laws, Dale and Marlyn Kay (Baird) Johnston.
A celebration of Brian's life will be conducted on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tonganoxie United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 a.m. Brian's family invites everyone to stay for lunch and a toast to Brian at a reception at the Brunswick Ballroom at 12:00 p.m. In honor of Brian, please join the family in wearing a Hawaiian shirt, hunter orange, or K-State purple for the day.
A memorial fund in Brian's name has been established to support research on West Nile virus. The family respectfully asks that no flowers be sent. Contributions can be made at www.ksufoundation.org/give/memorials, designation: Dr. Brian Huseman Memorial Fund.
