Brian Allen Nickel
April 22, 1975 – December 29, 2024
Brian Nickel, 49, of Midland, Michigan, passed away suddenly on December 29, 2024, after courageously living with the later stages of Huntington's disease. Brian grew up in Pinconning Michigan, and was a proud graduate of Northwood University, where he earned a degree in Computer Science. He built a successful career and retired from Dow Chemical, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Brian had two great passions in life: the outdoors and his family. An avid hunter, he spent countless autumns on his property in Turner, Michigan, where he cherished time with friends and family. He also found joy in snowmobiling, embarking on annual trips to Michigan's Upper Peninsula that were filled with adventure and camaraderie. A thrill-seeker at heart, Brian truly lived life to the fullest. His unwavering support for his children was evident during football games and swim meets, where he could always be found cheering in the stands or on the sidelines as their coach in the kids' younger years.
Brian is survived by his three beloved children: Mason, 18, a freshman at Michigan State University and a football student athlete; twin daughters Avery, 16, a standout swimmer on the Dow High swim team; and Kenzie, 16, an enthusiastic cheerleader for Dow High. He also leaves behind his mother, Jean Nickel of Pinconning; siblings Kelli (Jim) Ivey, Bonnie (Mike) Pinder of Caledonia, Michigan, Ron (Angela) Nickel of Libertyville, Illinois, and Brad (Kelly) Nickel of Alto, Michigan; as well as many nieces and nephews. Brian was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Nickel, and his grandparents, Stanley and Charlotte Kryzak of Essexville, Michigan, and Henry and Myrtle Nickel of Munger, Michigan. Brian's life was defined by his adventurous spirit, his deep love for family, and his generosity. He will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered.
A celebration of Brian's life will be Saturday January 4, 2025, at Rivertown Funeral Chapel at 2:30 pm with Deacon Gary Patelski presiding with burial at St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10am till time of service.
Please feel free to wear your Michigan State wear to support Brian's favorite team. Memorial contributions can be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America.
