Brian Francis York, 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 21, 2025 in Rochester Hills.
Son of Frank and Marion York, he was born December 14, 1938 in Detroit, MI. He graduated from Southfield High School in 1956. He went on to get his undergraduate degree from Walsh College and then successfully passed the CPA exam the first time taking it. He began working at Grant Thornton in Detroit, where he met his wife of 48 years, Jean, who preceded him in death in 2013.
Brian was a successful businessman, part of the executive team at Jared Brown Brothers in
Troy, MI. Deciding to branch out on his own, he and a partner purchased Hydro-Cam Engineering in Sterling Heights, MI, a tool and die shop. After 10 years of ownership, he sold the business to enjoy his retirement.
Hydro-Cam endured a challenging financial period after Brian sold the company. He decided to buy back the business with hopes of turning the downfall around. His main concern was for the employees, who he knew and cared for after years of loyal service. And that caring nature captures who Brian was as a person. His integrity was unmatched, and he was always happy to stop and say hello and ask others about themselves.
He embraced his catholic faith and was an usher for many years. He also sat on many boards, including one at Higgins Lake and his condo association board.
Brian loved to attend his grandsons' football and baseball games, and fishing for perch with his dear friends, Pete and Paul, on Higgins Lake. He also enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, traveling, Detroit sports, his morning newspaper with coffee and a good cigar.
He was preceded to heaven by his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and his beloved wife, Jean. He is survived by his two children - daughter Carrie (Don) Slominski and son Jeff York, his two grandsons, Trey (Alexa) Slominski and Jake (Callie) Slominski, along with his three great grandchildren, Remi, Drew and Blake, his brothers John (Marlene) York and Jim (Debbie) York, many nieces and nephews, and his companion for the last six years, Heidi Bruckler.
While we lost our beloved and cherished dad, many have lost a devoted friend, and loved one in him. He was a rock to many - a kind and highly principled man who always did the right thing. There was so much more to him than just dad, though to us that was his greatest role. He was a husband, colleague, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and faithful companion.
