On August 23, 2024 laying by her mother's side, hand in hand with her husband and surrounded by family, Bridget M. Schena, 26, succumbed to her battle with cancer.
Born on June 26, 1998, Bridget now watches over those still here. Her husband, Gideon; parents, Micheal and Miranda (Seiler) Murphy; children, Zayne, Witten, Madelyne, Elizabeth, Ryleigh; special niece, Blakeleigh; her siblings, Mechia Murphy (Jonathan Predmore), Brooke Murphy, Ashley Murphy, triplet sister and brother Jordan and Nicholas Murphy, Nathan Murphy, Emily Murphy; grandparents, Peggy Seiler, Skip Seiler, and Jackie (Danny) Smith; godmother, Teddi Brown; dear friends, Tabby Rodriguez and Macaylyn Ford; dog, Marlin; and countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bridget was predeceased by her grandfather, Dewitt Murphy; step-grandmother, Barbara Seiler; and godfather, Dave Brown.
Bridget graduated from Norwich High School in 2016. She played softball (#23) but her real passion and love was basketball (#23). She started playing in her early years at the YMCA and continued throughout her school years and also while attending OCC for Early Childhood Education. Bridget enjoyed the season she was able to be an assistant coach for the girls Norwich JV basketball team.
On June 6, 2019, she married Gideon Schena who she supported while he served in the United States Army. Bridget traveled alongside him wherever he was stationed until they moved back to Norwich.
Bridget was a devoted a dedicated wife, mother, sister, daughter, granddaughter, niece, and friend to all in her life. In addition to raising her growing family, Bridget spent time as a Home Health Aide before being employed by NCSD as a teacher's aide at Perry Browne School.
Bridget was always looking out for and helping others, many times putting their needs before hers, even throughout her illness. She left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to meet her.
She was a huge NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching Family Feud.
The family wishes to thank the nurses at Hematology Oncology in Syracuse and the doctors and nurses at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Calling hours and the funeral will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home, 68 South Broad Street, Norwich on Friday, August 30, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. and from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, with a celebration of life to follow at 129 Underwood Road, Norwich, NY 13815. All attending the calling hours, service, an celebration of life are asked to wear purple or Support Squad Shirts.
