Betty Mae Law, 86, of Sherburne, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at her home. She was born November 13, 1938, to Mildred E. (Franklin) Law and Wesley Redfield Law in Plymouth, NY. Betty graduated with honors from Norwich High School on West Main Street in June 1957. She was in the top 10% of her class of 112 and had 100% attendance in her high school years.
During Betty's senior year in high school, she began working half days at the Carl Payne Insurance Agency. On June 7, 1958, she married Delmar D. Law, Jr. of North Pharsalia at the Broad St. Methodist Church in Norwich by Reverend J. Harold Davies.
As their children arrived, Betty became a homemaker and loving mother. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, celebrating birthdays, camping, picnicking, frog and deer hunting, traveling the USA, watching old movies, reading, dancing, roller skating and listening to Country music especially George Jones. She loved learning about local and American history and was well known for keeping track of the birthdays of all her friends and family and sending cards for each one. In addition, she and Del always made it a priority to follow their children and grandchildren to sports games, theater shows, chorus concerts and marching band parades around the state.
Over the years, Betty found time to serve as a youth Sunday school teacher, an election inspector for over 25 years, the North Norwich Firemen's Auxiliary, WSCS of Broad St.Methodist church, and a Cub Scout Den Mother.
As part of the Sherburne United Methodist church, she served as finance secretary, trustee, councilperson, treasurer of the UMW, sang in the choir, and was the Newsletter editor for many years. Betty was a member of Sherburne Music-Theater Society, Chenango County Historical Society, Chenango County Council of Arts, Earlville Opera House and supporter of the Pageant of Bands, Music in the Park, Sherburne Public Library and many church events.
Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years, Delmar D. Law, Jr., her four children: Colleen Law-Tefft (Mike Tefft), Brian Law (Kathleen Keeny Law) of Tennessee, Marni Manwarren (Kip Manwarren), and Marleen Cortez (Karl Cortez) of Johnson City. Six grandchildren: Nathan Manwarren, Lindsay Hadlock Manwarren (Troy Decker), Jessica Law, Zachery Law (Melanie Law), Holly Tefft (Caelan Lipford), and Rene Cortez. She is also survived by her nieces, Lana Byrne Deuel (Jim Deuel) and Lesley Byrne, as well as her great nephew Heath Shepard (Jennifer Shepard) and great niece, Ryanne Shepard (Michael Shepard).
In addition, she is survived by her brothers in law, Robert Law and Norm Law (Barbara Law), and sister-in-law Donna Law, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
Especially lifelong friends, Sally Nuzzolese and Barbara Bush.
She was predeceased by her mother, Mildred "Millie" Franklin Law, father, Wesley R. Law, sister, Janet Byrne, father-in-law, Delmar D. Law, Sr., brothers-in-law, Leonard Law and Theodore Law, sisters-in-law, Wanetta Law, Shirley Law, Lenore Law, and Kareen Law Gibbon.
