Brock Gilleland Dashiell, Sr. Brock joined his beloved wife, Lizzie, in heaven on December 12, 2025, a mere four months after her passing. Brock was born June 12, 1941 in
Norfolk, VA to Shirley Rowan Dashiell and Virginia Milford Dashiell. He was a proud graduate of Granby High School, and in 1963, the first graduating class of Old Dominion College. He is predeceased by his parents, his wife of 62 years, and granddaughter Olivia Hope Dashiell. Growing up in the Cromwell Farms area of Norfolk, first, on Blake Road, and then around the corner on Sir Oliver Road, was forever a part of his heart. He made indelible memories on the Lafayette River with lots of boating, water skiing- even slalom skiing, and crabbing. Up until the last few months he was quick to let anyone know that he played basketball for the infamous Lefty Drisell during his time at Granby High. Mutual friends introduced Brock and Lizzie during their senior years in college and they married the following August. New friendships and mischiefs were forged on Azalea Court, in West Ghent where they bought their first little house. The Ferrells and the Hurds became lifelong friends and endless stories of their antics and camaraderies were shared over the years. A move to Buckingham Ave occurred in 1968, where Brock and Lizzie would go on to live for 57 years. Neighbors would come and go, yet they welcomed each new family into the fold, and they never missed a block party or neighborhood gathering. After a few years in his first job with Door Engineering, under Mr. Montgomery's watch, Brock transferred his gift of salesmanship to become the windowman of Hampton Roads. At various times he represented windows made by Pella, Anderson, and one of his favorites, Eagle. He loved working with architects and builders and was so proud of his projects. We never drove by any of his projects without him commenting, "I did those windows". The Royster Building in downtown Norfolk was an especially notable achievement. Socially, Brock enjoyed his time spent at the Norfolk Boat Club, The Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, and most recently, his Panera group coffee club. Brock deeply loved his family. He was always there for support, guidance and fun for Lizzie, Brock, Jr. and Beth. He positively adored his grandchildren, Rowan, Rebecca and Bennett and was ever present in all aspects of their lives. After outgrowing the first OBX beach house,"the beach box", Poppy designed, "on a napkin", the house in Kill Devil Hills, that the family enjoyed for over twenty years. He was happiest presiding over the porch dinner table with the family, listening to the same soundtrack of Simon and Garfunkel while we ate and laughed. We are so grateful for his vision and gift of "The Dashiell's" on Lee Ave. Left to cherish his large personality and memories are his son, Brock G. Dashiell, Jr (Cherene), daughter, Beth Dashiell Miller (Eric), grandchildren, Rowan Miller (Hailey), Rebecca Miller and Bennett Miller, his sister, Susanne Demma, nieces Lisa and Courtney, and the furry love of his life, Lulu. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, January 5,2026 at 2 pm at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
