Bruce was born on February 20th, 1976 and passed away on
March 12th, 2025 at the age of 49Bruce Derrick Foy was born in Chicago, IL to Iris Foy and an aspiring artist father. His brother, Michael, was born four years prior to him. When Bruce was four years old his family moved to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, his mother's birthplace, to escape Chicago's cold weather, and for a better place in the sunshine.
Bruce's mother, Iris, later moved to Houston, Texas where family members resided and was raised by his mother, his aunt Mavis, and his uncle, Calvin. Bruce enjoyed being in Houston because the warm weather reminded him of the Islands. As a child Bruce loved playing video games with his brother, Mike, and his friend, Zerrick. He also had a fondness for eating pizza and drinking chocolate milk.
From early on, Bruce was a kind, soft-spoken young man. As time went by, he acquired mental and developmental challenges. As a young adult, Bruce became a ward of the State of Texas and was placed at the Redmond State Supported Living Center, and later in group homes in Houston. At Star Point Services, Bruce's last group home, he was blessed to be in a supportive and caring environment, along with others like himself. Bruce was well loved by his managers and caretakers.
Bruce passed away in his sleep on March 12, 2025, at Star Point at the age of 49. His passing was unexpected and has left a void in the hearts of his family and all those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his older brother Michael Ware, his grandmother Adeline Foy, his grandfather William Foy, his uncle Clifford Foy, and his uncle Kwame Adu. He is survived by his mother Iris Foy, his uncles Wilfred Foy and Calvin Fahie, and his aunts Agnes Foy and Mavis Foy. He is also survived by a host of extended family including cousins and other relatives and friends. Bruce will be missed tremendously by his family, his caretakers and managers, and all those who knew him and loved him.
