Bruce Patterson passed away peacefully on Oct 24, 2025. Born on Oct 3, 1943 in Port Washington NY, a town he loved, and developed his life-long passion for sailing.
Bruce graduated from Pauld D. Shreiber high school, and received his bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University. After graduating from Wesleyan, he served as a Lieutenant in the Navy. Upon returning to civilian life, Bruce earned his MBA from Hofstra University.
Bruce was a 25 year veteran of IBM, a career which took him overseas with his family to Paris and London. After early retirement, he pursued various careers. His love of boats led him to become certified as a marine surveyor, while his love of discounted marine gear led to him working part-time at West Marine.
Bruce had a lifelong love of sailing. He was an avid competitive sailor, a pursuit that took him across the country and to Europe. In his later years, he loved to cruise on the Long Island Sound, but also ventured as far as Cuba and the British Virgin Islands, and completed half of the Great Loop.
Bruce had a zest for life and loved to travel and explore new things. He was very social and was always up for a party, a cold beer, or a Manhattan. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he was beloved by all.
Bruce was survived by his wife Martha, his son David, his daughter Beth and her husband Chris Meier, and two brothers James and Roy Patterson. He was pre-deceased by his sister Marcia Tomassi and his brother Robert Patterson.
