Bruce L. Whidden
Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Veteran, Engineer, and Friend
1936 – 2025
Bruce L. Whidden passed away June 10 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, dedication, and kindness. A man of quiet resolve and great intellect, Bruce lived a full and purposeful life, inspiring those around him through his unwavering character and sharp wit.
Born in 1936, Bruce served proudly in the United States Navy as a minesweeper, demonstrating the discipline and determination that would define his life. After his military service, he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from North Dakota State University, launching a distinguished career that would take him to the forefront of American innovation.
Bruce worked as an engineer and project manager for Thiokol, contributing to NASA's shuttle and missile programs. His work was not only a testament to his brilliance and precision but also to his lifelong commitment to advancing technology and serving a greater cause. He eventually retired from Thiokol, leaving behind an impactful career marked by excellence and integrity.
Outside of his professional life, Bruce was an avid skier and golfer, always embracing the challenges and joys of life with open arms. He was a man who valued
movement, determination, and grace-in sport as in life.
Bruce was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delores "Dee" Whidden; his daughters, Deniene Whidden and Deniene Merice Whidden; and his stepson, Carter McKinstry. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Dawn McKinstry; his grandson, Dakota Ellis; Dakota's wife, Katherine Corea; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Amirah and Kyler, who brought him great joy in his later years.
Though his hearing faded with time, Bruce never missed an opportunity to connect with others. Whether it was cracking a well-timed joke or striking up a friendly conversation, he made people feel seen, heard, and valued. He expected the best from those around him, but was always willing to guide, teach, and uplift.
Headstrong yet warmhearted, confident yet caring-Bruce Whidden was truly one of a kind. His memory will live on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared so freely.
He will be deeply missed
