Brunetti Boatwright was born on October 29, 1933 to the late Emerson and Essie Candia in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Brunetti was an only child. Brunetti accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She attended Mount Olive Tabernacle Baptist Church with her mother and was baptized. Brunetti was educated in the Philadelphia School System attending Martha Washington Elementary, Sulzberger Jr High and graduated from the John Bartram High School in May 1951.
Brunetti Candia met and married her love and friend Leroy G. Todd in December of 1952 and from that union she gave birth to 7 children, Leroy, Valarie, Pamela, Joanne, Terrance, Barry (deceased), and Daphne (Pebbs). Brunetti remarried in May of 1975 to Richard Boatwright and birthed from that union 1 daughter Duane. Brunetti worked in the Philadelphia Court System as a stenographer for a few years. Brunetti retired from Presbyterian Medical Center as a Microbiology Lab Clerk in 1995. She worked for 22 years. Mom joined Solid Rock Baptist Church where her daughter (Pam) attended in 2005 and was a faithful member until 2011 when her health began to fail. That didn't stop her worship; she would listen to Billy Graham and others on T.V ministry. Mom did like to praise God and sing worship songs such as "I am Redeemed", "His eyes on the Sparrow", and "God Is". Some of Mom's favorite artists were Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson, Nena Simone, Shirley Caesar, Nat King Cole, and James Cleveland and many others. Mom loved good music.
Mom had a busy life attending to her children and grandchildren's activities such as graduations, proms, grandparent days, sound plays, school programs, games, church luncheons, and traveling to beaches and amusement parks. Mom had an active life. Mom was an excellent cook and taught all of her children to cook or bake something. You could always get a home cooked meal at Mom's house. Don't forget the deep-dish peach/pear cobbler, rice pudding or a variety of cakes. Mom was always there for us. Our beautiful Queen had a quiet spirit and never raised her voice. Mom was sweet, soft spoken, selfless, smart, loyal, a great listener, and had a winning smile that would light up any room. Mom was amazing. Mom loved God, her children and our entire extended family.
Mom always had time to listen to your problems, concerns, and issues. We would talk on the phone for hours. Mom was a wise woman and gave good advice. We loved to see Mom dress up for our glitz affairs with her matching outfit from hats, evening bags and matching shoes. Mom stayed ready for an event. Mom taught us to work hard, pay your bills and remember to buy something for yourself. Save some and spend some money. During the last 11 months of Mom's life, she needed caregiving service. Her granddaughters Nicky and Desiree took excellent care of their grand mom. Mom spent her last days in comfort and surrounded by lots of love and care.
Take you rest Mom. We will always Love you and miss you dearly. You answered the call to your loving Father and we know he loved you best!!
Brunetti was preceded in death by her baby boy Barry Todd. Brunetti leaves to cherish in her memories: Children Leroy (Gail), Valarie, Pamela, Joanne, Terrance (Andrea), Daphne and Duane, Bonus Son James Garnett, Bonus Daughter Simone Stratton, (28) Grandchildren, (49) Great Grandchildren, and (15) Great Great Grandchildren. Special mention of those Mom held dearly to her heart: Roy Mills, Daniel Green, Shirley Dash, Greg Thompson and a host of family, relatives and friends.
