Bryce Laverne Tallman, 89 of Lancaster, MO passed away at the Schuyler County Nursing Home with his family at his side on November 7, 2023.
Bryce was born on July 16, 1934 along with his twin sister, Berniece in the home of his parents, Charles Austin & Wilma LaVelle (Butts) Tallman in rural Lancaster, MO. Bryce had excellent taste in wives, on October 11, 1953 he married Martha Ann Graves at the Glenwood Methodist Church and to this union five children were born; Sara Annette, Marcia Lee, Curtis Laverne, Patrick Bryce & Elizabeth Ann. Bryce married Stella Ann (Steen) Cook on March 19, 1977 at the Lancaster Christian Church. Upon this union Bryce added Charles, Robert & Henry Cook combining their families into one. Bryce & Ann blessed their family with one more when Everett Austin Tallman was born on April 22, 1979.
Bryce loved the farm life. He was always researching (this was before Google) at the University Extension Office where the beautiful Ann would get his pamphlets. He raised cattle and game birds in his early married life. He raised pheasants, quail & chukar, which he sold to game reserves. He hatched eggs and raised birds until the early 1970's. He raised mixed cows all of his life until his research lead him to Salers, they were supposed to be easy calving low maintenance cows. He started with Corriedale and then switched to Rambouillet sheep. He purchased some rams and 3 semi loads of ewe lambs from Lusk & Douglas Wyoming. When these lambed, he had 5000 sheep. Bryce, at one time, had the most sheep in Schuyler County. Bryce loved flowers all his life and they were his therapy. He told us in the 50's he had an acre of flowers, some of his favorites were irises, gladiolus, roses and tree lilies. When be bought flowers, he would buy all he could get his hands on. One year he bought 10,000 bulbs and planted them along the highway right away for everyone that drove by to enjoy. Bryce and Ann gave away hundreds of bouquets to friends and family over the years.
Bryce's greatest love was his family. Annette had a 3-foot x 3-foot photo of 64 of our family members (that was not nearly all of us) made and it hung over their table where it brought joy to everyone. Bryce had it beside his chair at the nursing home and he loved to talk about it with anyone who would listen.
Bryce was baptized in a pond with 6 other friends in the Darby area, he was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church.
Bryce was preceded in death by his wives, Martha 1970, Stella Ann 2019; his son, Everett on March 11, 1997; son-in-law, James West; one great-granddaughter, Scarlette Elyse Battin; his parents; one brother, Eldon Tallman; three sisters and spouses, Elizabeth (Betty) & Tim Mullenix; Berniece & Gordon Ford; Marcia Joyce & Bob Mobley; and one sister Ann Ayer.
