Mr. Bud McFarland, age 75, of Dodson, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield, Louisiana.
Born on Tuesday, January 17, 1950, in Tannehill, Louisiana, Bud was the son of the late William Loran McFarland and the late Esther Townsend McFarland. He was a beloved member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Tannehill and was affectionately known as the "Gum Man," always ready with Juicy Fruit, Big Red, or bubble gum for anyone in need of a smile. He never met a stranger and had the sweetest disposition.
Bud spent his working years employed in various mills throughout the Winnfield area, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: G.T. McFarland, William Loran McFarland, Jr., Loran McFarland, Bobby Joe McFarland, Lester McFarland Wheeler, Troy V. McFarland, Jackie Lynn McFarland, John T. McFarland, Samuel Dale McFarland, Wardell Gray, Marjorie Garrison, and Cleo Kavanaugh.
Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Myra McFarland Lang of Winnfield, Nancy McFarland Gordon, and Thelma McFarland; his brothers, Charles McFarland and wife Delores, and Pete McFarland and wife Debbie; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Tannehill, with Rev. Norris Curry and Rev. Russell Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jack McFarland, Trampas Shelton, Loran Shelton, Payton Shelton, Jackson McFarland, and Jerry Hebert.
