Burl “BJ” Jackson Chester Jr., 55, of Amarillo, TX passed away August 18, 2025.
Memorial service will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 25, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
BJ was born April 14, 1970 in Tulsa, OK to Burl Jackson Chester and Debra Lynn Collins. He always said he got to Texas as fast as he could.
BJ graduated from Caprock High School in 1988. He immediately left for the United States Marine Corps. He served in Desert Storm and was a true warrior and patriot. He loved his country.
Being a Marine was one of his biggest accomplishment and he met so many brothers along the way. BJ joined the Potter County Sheriff’s Office when he returned from war. Sheriff Jimmy Don Boydston (a Marine himself) saw the potential in this amazing warrior. Sergeant Chester retired from PCSO in 2017 after 27 years of service. He treated himself to his dream car, a blue 1967 Pontiac GTO. He loved her so much.
In 1991 he had a son, Dillon Chester. BJ was so proud of him. He loved to cheer him on when he played high school football. He continued to cheer him on as he grew in his career.
He loved being a dad that he added 3 more children when he married his soul mate, Ida Escobedo Chester in 2014.
He went on to be a Pops to his 7 grandchildren that he absolutely adored.
BJ and Ida rode many miles and states together on their Harley. As BJ started to get sick they parked it and made memories in a pickup and camper. They were each other’s Ride or Die.
BJ suffered with Desert Storm Illness, but being the Marine he was, he would do it all over again for his country. Everything he did, he gave 100% and he was always the one you could depend on to watch your six. He knew his scripture and Jesus Christ was his savior.
He literally carried a bible and a forty five.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Stanley and Bryanetta Collins.
And Paternal grandparents, Allie and Elva Chester
BJ is survived by his wife and parents. Sons Dillon Chester, Anthony Cortez, and Mark Cortez. Daughter, Nicole Austin. Grandchildren Lyric, Rayne, Samuel, Willow, Audrey, Maverick and Wyatt and his beloved 8 dogs.
