Burness Mae Spangler ObituaryBurness Spangler (née Secrest), age 86, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, in Mentor, Ohio. She was born on May 7, 1939, in Noble County, Ohio, to the late Harold and Laura Secrest.
A proud graduate of Belle Valley High School, Burness was an active member of 4-H in her youth, where she enjoyed raising rabbits, baking, sewing, and gardening-skills and passions that stayed with her throughout her life.
In her younger years, Burness worked for Polson Rubber in Garrettsville and later became a dedicated member of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), where she served as a baker and retail manager. She was also a proud member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Burness will be remembered most for her deep love of family, her beautiful gardens, her exceptional baking, and her quick wit that could brighten any room. Her warmth, humor, and generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was the loving mother of John (Natalie) Baker, Jeffrey Baker, Sharon Jones, Beda Madden, and Laura (Michael) Heimberger; adored grandmother of ten; and cherished great-grandmother of nineteen.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center Street, Mentor. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 5:30 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Middlefield Cemetery at a later date.
