Byrd Long Obituary

Jack Long passed away April 11th at the Washington Hospital after a brief illness. Born in the Roxboro Hospital, Person County NC May 16, 1946, he was the son of Byrd Jackson Long, Sr. and Myrtle Whitfield Long. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings Mary Evelyn Long, Elaine L. Goolsby, Virginia Love Long and Michael Bagby Long. Surviving is his sister Sybil L. Jennings, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Jack attended the University of North Carolina before traveling, working in construction, construction management, becoming a General Contractor, scuba diver, and Marine Captain. He was an avid reader, was well spoken, enjoyed playing golf and had many close personal relationships. He lived out his life after settling in downtown Washington
surrounded by water, books, music, exercise, social life and countless friends. Jack was known as the Mayor of Main Street.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday April 16th 2:00pm-5:00pm at Wine & Words Gourmet at 220/228 West Main Street, Washington, NC hosted by Joan and Roger Meyland, and Mary Mehlich.
An additional Celebration of Life will be held on the family farm, at the James T. Whitfield Cemetery, Hurdle Mills, NC, at a later date.
