We honor the life of a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Calbertson Yazzie brought laughter, comfort, understanding, and kindness to all who knew him. Calbertson was born on May 3, 1979, in Shiprock, New Mexico, on the Navajo Nation, to Ilene Benally and Calvin Yazzie Sr. He was the middle child of brothers Emerson Benally, Calvert Yazzie, and Calvin Yazzie, and sister Debrolene Hill. He was also blessed with many half-brothers, half-sisters, stepbrothers, and stepsisters. His nieces and nephews adored him and cherished every moment spent in his company. Although he never married, Calbertson was deeply loved by many whose lives he touched. He graduated from Shiprock High School in 1998 and began working as a carpenter before moving to Salt Lake City and later Tooele, Utah, where he continued his trade and raised his family. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed tackling projects on his own, especially repairing vehicles and maintaining his children's gaming consoles. Calbertson found joy in life's simple pleasures-playing games, watching movies, cooking, and keeping his home in order. He was a generous man, always willing to help others without expecting anything in return. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved the Denver Broncos, often wearing team gear from hoodies to beanies. Whether or not his favorite team was playing, he simply loved the game. He also cheered passionately for the L.A. Lakers, with Kobe Bryant being his all-time favorite player. He had a deep love for his family's pets, especially because of the joy they brought to his children. Those who knew him will remember his humor, his movie quotes, and the easygoing presence that made people feel at home. Calbertson passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, August 4, 2025, in Grantsville, Utah, at the age of 46. He leaves behind his daughter, Kyera Yazzie (22); his sons, Kailier Yazzie (19) and Kaiden Ortega Yazzie (14); the mother of his children, Vanessa Yazzie; his mother-in-law, Rena Yazzie; and her wife, KC Christiansen. Services A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 11AM to 3PM, at the Montezuma County Annex Building, 107 N Chestnut St., Cortez, Colorado. Burial will take place at a later date. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has donated, shared condolences, and offered support. Calbertson was loved by many, and his memory will forever live on in our hearts.
