LaReta McFarland, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at the age of 68.
She was born on September 30, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Neldon and Jo Ann Lemon. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Doug Lemon and Karen James, whom she loved deeply and missed dearly.
LaReta is survived by her brothers, Robert and Ralph Lemon; her sons, Ian (Cassie) McFarland and Neil (Jaki) McFarland; and her cherished grandchildren: Ridley, Lextyn, Jasper, Jett, Jade, DiAnne, and Kalvin. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Link, who never left her side.
LaReta lived life with warmth, humor, and creativity. She was an avid crocheter who always had a project in hand; She made doilies of every color, shape, and size, and cozy blankets for each of her grandkids. Her cooking brought comfort and joy to everyone around her, especially her famous cinnamon rolls. As the neighborhood mom, she was known for her welcoming spirit, quick wit, and the way she could make anyone smile. She treasured time with her family and friends, and her presence made every gathering brighter.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Tate Mortuary in Tooele. Visitation will take place from 12:00 to 12:45 PM, with the memorial service beginning at 1:00 PM. A luncheon celebrating LaReta's life will follow at the Moose Lodge in Tooele.
LaReta leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and handmade warmth. Her memory will live on in all who knew and loved her.
