Mark Samuel Stookey November 15, 1942 – August 1, 2025 Mark was born to Paul William Stookey and Gwenevere Anderson Stookey in the old Tooele Maternity Home in Tooele, Utah. He is survived by his brother Jonathan (Nancy), nieces Julia and Gwen, nephew Trevor, close friends and neighbors Lacey and Kris Burrows, and family and several cousins. From an early age, Mark had a love of reading and collected a large library of many, many books particularly history and railroading. He also collected railroad timetables and typewriters. Mark grew up on the family ranch in Clover (Rush Valley). He attended school in St. John (Rush Valley) and Tooele. He played the clarinet and bass clarinet in the high school band. He also appeared in many high school plays. He attended the University of Utah for four years. Mark joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1963 and served for 24 years. He also worked for the Army Reserve as a full-time employee at Fort Douglas, UT, Pocatello, ID, and Idaho Falls, ID, until his retirement. After he retired, he lived in Rush Valley, UT, with his books and many, many cats. A memorial service will be held at the Rush Valley Town Hall, 52 South Park Street, Rush Valley, Utah, at noon on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
