Calime Izor Obituary

Published by Perkins-Parker Funeral Home Cremation Services - Waterbury on May 28, 2008.
Calime Raymond Izor lived a long and fulfilling life for more than 90 years before passing away at Woodridge Nursing Home on a sunny, summery Monday afternoon, May 26, 2008 with family by his side. Born in Montpelier, Vermont on September 22, 1917, Calime was the first-born child of the late Raymond C. and Ida (Thomas) Izor. He lived most of his life in Waterbury, with the exception of eight years when he resided in Plymouth, New Hampshire. His winter home for many years was in Vero Beach, Florida.

Calime enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, and while stationed in Madison, Wisconsin met his now deceased spouse of 44 years, the former Lillian Valenta of Richmond Center, WI. Beginning in 1948 Calime and Lillian and the late Charles and Ann Izor, Calime’s brother and sister-in-law, co-owned and co-operated Izor Brothers Fuel Oil Company for 37 years. Their brother, Richard Izor, was a valued and integral member of the Izor Brothers team. Barbara B. Twitchell, his second wife whom he married in 1990, also predeceased Calime, as did his sisters and their spouses, Emma and Douglas Clifton, and Genevieve and Jack LeBourveau.

Calime is survived by: two brothers - Richard Izor and his wife, Rena, of Waterbury; Robert Izor and his wife, Betty, of Barre and two sisters - Marion Izor Coffin and her husband, Robert of Waterbury; Selma Izor Carpenter and her husband, Andrew, of Waterbury Center. He is survived by three children: Nancy Dalley and her husband, James, of Ashland, New Hampshire; Alice Michalak of Williston; and Raymond Izor and his wife, Donna of Waterbury. His life was enriched by his five grandchildren; Monty Dalley and his wife Jodi Reynolds Dalley, of Georgetown, MA; Marla Dalley Littlefield and her husband Shay, of Plymouth, NH; Gregory Izor of Austin, TX; Kate Izor of Camden, ME; and Trevor Michalak of Williston. Calime enjoyed his seven great-grandchildren; Mason Dalley, Calime Littlefield, Abraham Littlefield, Jake Dalley, Cameron Dalley, Olivia Littlefield and Madelyne Littlefield.

Included in Calime’s civic and community involvement is being a founding member of Blush Hill Country Club, a member of the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post 59, Chamber of Commerce, and Waterbury Rotary Club. Calime’s passions in life included the games of candlepin bowling, pool, and, in particular, golf. He also had a love of learning and was a veracious reader. In more recent years, Calime developed an avid interest in cooking and baking. He was a devoted family man, who had meaningful relationships with his many siblings and other members of his multigenerational extended family. Vero Beach, Florida was a winter haven for Calime during his retirement, where he enjoyed the company of an extended group of “Vermonters” including many long time friends.

Funeral services will be held from the Waterbury Congregational Church on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury. Friends may call at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Waterbury on Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. Calime’s family requests that memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Waterbury Food Shelf, PO Box 214, Waterbury VT 05676, or to Revitalizing Waterbury Inc., PO Box 473, Waterbury, VT 05676 . We want to extend our sympathy to the entire Izor family. Cal was always so kind to me, and followed my golfing at Blush Hill for so many years, giving me a lot of encouragement. I'll remember him as always having a smile on his face. He will be sadly missed.
