Calvin E. Moore

AYER: Calvin E. Moore, 71, passed away peacefully on June, 7 2024 at his home in Ayer.
Calvin was born February 23, 1953 to parents George V. and Zelda L. (Fitch) Moore. He was the youngest brother to Jonathan, Douglas, and G. Victor. He grew up on Taft Street at the family home in Ayer, where they raised Morgan show horses. Calvin resided his entire life in Ayer, the town he loved.
He was a graduate of Ayer High class of 1971. After graduating he attended the Stockbridge School of Agriculture in Amherst, MA before returning to Ayer to work with his father at the family lumber yard, G.V. Moore Lumber. He became the fifth generation to run the family business, which he grew to a multiple location company, with yards in Leominster, Webster, Chelmsford, Nashua, NH. He was an active member of Mass Retail Lumber Dealers Association, where he was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Calvin was very passionate about any endeavor with which he became involved. In 1998, along with his mother Zelda, they purchased the Page Block in downtown Ayer and began a complete historical restoration of the iconic landmark. He transformed the building into retail rental space, office space and started another business, The Billiards Café, on the second floor.
From an early age, he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He spent many summers at Camp Wanocksett as a camper and, with his father, built various camp infrastructure. He was a scout in Troop 3 Ayer. In his adult life, he was a member of the Nashua Valley Council Executive Board of Directors, which recently merged with the Mohegan Council to form the Heart of New England Council.
Calvin never passed up an opportunity to take an adventure. He was a life member of Safari Club International, and served as President of the New England Chapter. His passion for the outdoors, hunting, and fishing took him across the globe. Destinations included multiple excursions to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Sudan, South Africa, Alaska, Scotland, Yukon Territory, Brazil, Argentina, and many states in North America.
Calvin was father to three children and their spouses: C Jonathan Moore (Kelly), Todd D. Moore (Shannon) and Chelsie M. McCarthy (Joseph). He was a proud Grampy to six grandchildren: Riley Moore, Reese Moore, Lucas McCarthy, Levi Moore, Clara McCarthy, and C Parker Moore.
In addition to his parents, Calvin is predeceased by siblings, Baby Moore, who died at birth 1943, Jonathan Moore in 1965, Douglas Moore in 1968 and Victor Moore in 1994.
Calvin has left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of meeting and spending time with him. He will be deeply missed.
Calvin's family will receive relatives and friends at calling hours 4-7 PM Thursday. June 13, 2024 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, (Rte 2A) Ayer. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ayer will be held privately.
