He was born June 1, 1950, to the late William Paul and Georgia Self Portman. He was a lifelong member of the Mt. Hebron Gospel Mission Church and a retired home builder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Patricia "Trish" Clark Portman; his grandparents, George and Nora Ellen Burkhead Self and William and Anna Casey Portman; a brother, Ernest Portman (Jane); two sisters, Paula Faye Johnson (Larry) and Cathy Hay and a nephew, Allen Cripps.
Shorty is survived by his daughter, Jennifer London (Geoff), a grandson, Kyle London (Morgan); a sister, Michele Portman South (Roger); a brother-in-law, Randy Hay; six nieces and nephews, Kim, Cindy, Paul, Regina, Angela and Stacey; thirteen great-nieces and nephews, Emily, Abby, Timmy, Jacob, Christopher, Chelsea, Chandler, Lindsey, Michael, Morgan, Ally, Shawn and Ryan and six great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon (CST), Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Mt. Hebron Gospel Mission Church with Bro. Edward Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 PM, Saturday and after 9 AM, Sunday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Rob, Christoper, Chandler, Shawn, Ed, Bryan, Brad and Justin
Rogers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
